A painter loses a great deal of his dignity, by confining his genius, and never venturing out of his ordinary course. There are some, for instance, who apply themselves to the painting of nudities; but so, as still strictly to observe the same proportions, and never introducing the least variety: whereas they should consider, that a man may be well proportioned, whether he be thick or slender, short or tall,.
