A parent asks our group: AS a parent of a child with High Functioning Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder, Halloween was tough for me. It was the first time I could really stand back and see his autism, and how it affected all of his interactions. We had a fun time, but several times I had to apologize to neighbors as Asher ran into their homes, opened up their pumpkins to touch everything, ran up to strange dogs and asked everyone who passed us a thousand questions they werent prepared to answer (he doesnt wait for the answer anyway). I was a bit overwhelmed by it all and found myself trying to laugh it off with people by saying....Im sorry, hes just really curious... Does anyone else have times where they just want to cry? Cry for the struggles they know are ahead for their child? And maybe a little for themselves as well? Wondering if it was something they did that caused their child to be autistic? I guess I need to get buck up and dust myself off...I was just wondering if anyone else ever struggles with feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders and am also wondering how you stay strong and shake it off?
