A parent asks our group: My daughter recently started OT. I dont think they gave her an actual spd diagnosis. Shes having difficulty in school. Her grades are passing but she has horrible anxiety, she chews her pencils, and she works extremely slow. At school she is extremely quiet and withdrawn. She melts down immediately when I pick her up everyday. Ive tried talking to her school, tried to explain that she has sensory processing issues. They dont understand. My daughter is having to miss recess every day because she cant complete her morning work on time. She also has to miss specials (computers, music, p.e.) Occasionally. Her teacher makes her feel horrible for not completing her work in a timely manner. Yet her report card, she made as and bs and it states that she forms her letters and numbers correctly (she definitely dont) and she has good work habits (I would think not since she is having to muss recess/specials to complete work). Her school says she is not being affected academically therefore they dont know what I want them to do. Any advice?? My poor girl feels so misunderstood at school.
