A parent shares with our group: I just thought Id share some encouragement today. Its been a long week for all of us, especially with kids with sleep issues and how Daylight Savings Time effected them, and us! A lot has been said lately about rude people and how they comment to us about our kids, our parenting, etc. when in public. Just wanted to share that 2 weeks ago we took our 3 year old to a local Fall Festival that was supposed to be so much fun. Well, it was overwhelming for him but we kept thinking Hes going to have so much fun so we stayed and participated in pumpkin decorating, watched the pumpkin races, etc. Sounds fun, right? As it got closer to lunch time and nap time, we should have just left but we stayed. As you can imagine, with all the loud music, the people, the festivities, things to look at, etc. - at everything we did he was having a meltdown/tantrum which is unusual for him. At its peak, when it finally hit me that we just need to leave, he was in full meltdown stage as I was wrestling with trying to pick him up and my husband had gone to do something I dont remember. I dropped my sons sunglasses and was just struggling with trying to pick him up and get out of there I really didnt care about the glasses. A kind grandmother just walked by, picked up the glasses, handed them to me, and kept going. She didnt give a disapproving glance or say a word. But her kind gesture helped me gain the courage to just pick up my son and get the heck out of there. As soon as we got to the quiet of our car, he was absolutely calm, quiet and just fine! We live only a few minutes away so we went home, had lunch and took a nice long nap. There ARE kind people out there who are willing to help and its helped me try to be one of them when I see another parent in that situation. I hope you all have a peace-filled weekend and that we spend some time doing something fun with our kids!
