A patent filed by Facebook in 2012 for a system to allow under-13s - TopicsExpress

A patent filed by Facebook in 2012 for a system to allow under-13s to have Facebook profiles tied to their parents accounts (which the company says they have no plans to put into use) was made public on Thursday. The plan would mean parents could set use limits and decide who would have access to their childs profile. At the moment the minimum age for a Facebook user is 13 but it is estimated more than 7.5 million children lie to get around Facebook’s age restrictions. Should children be given social media accounts with parental approval and controls or should they be stopped from using it altogether?
