A peaceful demonstration was held in front of the Sri Lanka High Commission in London on Friday by the ‘Support Maithri Group’ demanding the Sri Lankan government to hold a free and fair Presidential election on January 8. ‘Support Maithri Group’ in London consists of Sri Lankan expatriates from diverse ethnic backgrounds. A spokesman for the Group said that there is no democracy in Sri Lanka and it is time for a change. He said that although they do not have the right to vote in Sri Lanka, they use their influence on their relatives and friends in Sri Lanka to vote for Maithripala Sirisena.
