A perfume ad for YSLs BLACK OPIUM will NOT be banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The ad shows a woman waking in the middle of the night, then searching for something in her bedside drawer. She then runs out into another building and is approached by a man. She moves to kiss him but then grabs a perfume bottle out of his hands before spraying it on her throat and slumping back against a wall. 12 viewers complained the ad is irresponsible and offensive & unsuitable as the woman’s actions glamorizes and trivializes addiction. LOréal advised the ad related a “passionate love story” with no connection to drug use or addiction; showing a woman waking to see her lover had left with her perfume and her finding him to portray the idea that she loved the perfume more... Interesting :-)
