A personal pet peeve of mine is the constant portrayal of people - TopicsExpress

A personal pet peeve of mine is the constant portrayal of people of color as being in need of help. Every class and conference I attend has a slide show or video about the poor brown people in Africa, on an island, in a disadvantaged urban area that are facing climate change, or pollution, or starvation/food deserts and need to be saved by enlightened well-to-do white people. The story is so pervasive, that youll even see videos of brown people literally begging for the white people to come help them, or the cops, or the majority white government. Well, Im here to say, that people of color are not just beggars and victims. Moreover, people of all colors need to be aware of and remind each other of our strengths as we battle together to save this planet! For permaculture to work, we need to change our culture, starting with the ecosystem within our hearts and minds. https://youtube/watch?v=2tN4Zulagb8 As permaculturalists, I hope that we can be put our weight behind efforts to get more diverse voices recognized in the environmental movement.
