A “personality disorder” as long as found in others Ive a thought for some time that very often people are vehemently opposing something while adamantly practising the same. Two such traits loathed very often are, for example, dogmatism and narcissism. It feels as if expressing disdain for them is in fact meant as a self-vindication. A couple of days ago, an old college fellow, a VOR journalist and Urdu columnist friend, Mojahid Mirza, wrote a column on narcissism. He began the column by accusing his young nephew of narcissism because he (the young nephew) was placing his own “posed photographs” on Facebook all too frequently. I asked Mirza whether his own frequent posting of his “posed photographs” was also an expression of narcissism? I had expected that it would make him angry. But to my surprise he replied; “I do have Narcissism, why not? It is not always bad. Sometimes it gives impetus to live lively.” May I call it hypocrisy or is it my puritanism? [P.S. Ive his permission to quote him.]
