A persuasive theory from a commenter on this NYTimes article: Lisa D Lake Worth, Florida Im going to practice without a license for a moment, but my guess would be that Suarez has a classic case of Tourettes Syndrome (TS) with a rage component. Translation: his behavior is really awful when hes under pressure. According to the CDC: [TS] examples of physical aggression include extreme shoving, kicking, hitting, biting, and throwing objects. That pretty much sums it up. While Suarez may suffer from a genuine neurological disorder and may not actually be in control of his behavior, it doesnt mean that authorities should simply suspend him without ordering a full neurological/mental examination. After all, Suarezs violent history has been well-documented. Look -- clearly the man needs help, but at the same time, the other players need to be safe-guarded from further violent assaults which occur outside of the parameters of what is considered normal behavior during match play.
