A philosophical exercise of sorts. The following questions are a few examples that have had me really thinking about my moral views and are related to my overall moral outlook, as well as why I have been trying to make my diet vegan. Given my notions of morality which I have explained on this page before, I have to admit that for at least, my moral logic is inconsistent if not applied to non-human beings. To briefly summarize my view, I think that what is morally right is reducing suffering; but also that it is morally right/neutral to give preference to your own self if an unavoidable conflict arises. (Please note: I dont care how much you hate vegan activists etc; This is a general post about morality in regard to non-humans, not about how people should go about advocating for veganism. Please stay focused on the specific issues below) --------------------------- If someone kills another persons dog, is that morally wrong? If you kill a person who is trying to kill another persons dog, is that morally wrong or are you justified? If someone kills a dog that has no owner, is that morally wrong? If you kill a person who is trying to kill a dog that has no owner, is that morally wrong or are you justified? If someone kills a deer that has no owner, is that morally wrong? If you kill a person who is trying to kill a deer that has no owner, is that morally wrong or are you justified? How do you define what constitutes an immoral action in these cases? Where is the line? What is your basis or standard for saying which are right or wrong?
