A philosophy-lite moment, brought to you by Marks middle age: A - TopicsExpress

A philosophy-lite moment, brought to you by Marks middle age: A couple of days ago, I finally used up an old box of staples that I think my late father purchased some time in the mid-1970s, before many of you reading this were born. They were utterly normal, banal and totally indistinguishable from staples made today, except that theyve been lying around for most of my life. On the other hand, my first computer, an Atari 130XE purchased in 1985, became completely non-standard and incompatible with all other home computers within five years, and today is only remembered by incredibly nerdy techno-history nerds. And on yet another hand, I know a concert violinist who plays daily on an instrument made by a student of Stradivarius some time in the late 17th century. In other words, its a perfectly functional, completely standard and compatible device still in everyday use. And it was made around 50 or 60 years after the death of Shakespeare. What does it all mean? Im not sure. But it must mean something.
