A phony Coast Artillery installation at Shell Beach to deceive Japanese reconnaisance efforts. Many thanks to Dan Kreiger for explaining this part of our history. It should be noted that real 155mm M1918 guns were positioned throughout coastal San Luis Obispo County and manned by the African-American 54th Coast Artillery Regiment (Colored). Their headquarters were at Morro Bay State Park with known gun positions at Estero Landing, Morro Bay, Avila Beach, Shell Beach and Pismo Beach.
