A photo of The McMorran brothers F/L. Elmore and F/L. Melvin McMorran..RCAF....Lancaster pilots in 619 Squadron....Elmore on the right grew the moustache..so the brothers could be told apart...In the Canadian newspapers the photos caption was Brothers in Arms.....both brothers arrived on the Sqdn with their crews at the same time .26-9-44...and sadly were killed within a month of each other ....Melvin was shot down and was one of the 3 crew who died the other 4 becoming PoW,s...on 8th March 1945 in Lancaster NG286...PG-Y....while attacking an oil refinery at Harburg..Melvin has no know grave.....A month later on 10th April 1945...Elmore was shot down in Lancaster SW254...PG-S and died with 5 other crew men...1 becoming a PoW......while attacking railway yards in Leipzig...he and his crew mates are buried in Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery....When the brothers died Melvin had flown 26 Ops and Elmore 32.....they were believed to be the only brothers lost in 619 Sqdn ...they flew most of their Ops from RAF Strubby....although the quality of the photo was not very good ...I would like to say a big thank you for Phil Le Brocq for bringing the brothers back to life again with his excellent colourising of the photo ....
