A picture is worth 1,000 words, but search engines can’t - TopicsExpress

A picture is worth 1,000 words, but search engines can’t read them. Develop an online voice and the search engines – and people – will find you and share your work. Where do you begin?   The best place to start is thinking about the questions people ask you:  How did you create that image? Where do you like to photograph? What do you like to photograph? What lens did you use? All of these questions are good starting points for a blog post or informational page on your website. The next thing you need to do is write every day.  Even if you only have 10 minutes, write down ideas for future articles, blog posts or eBooks.  Use Evernote to save ideas until you have time to write.  Evernote allows you to write notes, record your voice, and take photos of the things or moments that inspire you.  This is the stuff you will most likely forget if you don’t save it. Find someone to edit or review your writing.  Often, I skip words and read over mistakes.  A second pair of eyes is good support.  If you don’t have anyone to help, put your writing away for a day and review it later with fresh eyes before you publish your work.  I also like to use the After the Deadline, a feature found in the WordPress Jetpack plugin.  It’s helpful to catch spelling errors, overuse of jargon and clichés, and grammar mistakes. Lastly, read. Well-written books, articles and essays will help you improve your writing style. The same principle of photography applies here as well: Don’t copy the words of other writers. Consider it as inspiration. Over time you will find your voice. Rosh Sillars is a photographer, author and consultant.
