A plant that has lived in EvCC’s ceramics studio for 14 years only blooms once a year. The event has eluded us every year – until now. Earlier this month, EvCC’s intrepid instructional technicians from ceramics (Jim Snitily) and photography (Fred Gilbert) saw seven buds forming on the night blooming cereus during the day and set up equipment to capture the event. The cereus, nicknamed the queen of the night, came alive at 8 p.m., and they caught the action on camera. “This was the first time we were able to smell its amazing fragrance and watch the magic before (the flowers) withered on the vine,” Jim said.
