A polygot is someone or something that understands two languages. It has been scientifically proven that humans are terrible at polygotting, while domesticated animal species have adapted very well at learning different languages. Dogs follow commands, and cats understand tones. Yet, if a dog barks or a cat meows, most people, even sophisticated and intelligent people, have no idea what those animals are saying. So why is it so difficult for humans to understand them when they understand us so easily? It is because humans do not need to learn another language to survive so the human brain does not use its available resources to adapt to a secondary language very easily, while a a domesticated animal knows they will not receive admiration or positive reinforcement unless they respond and learn. Its basic survival instinct, which humans are severely incapacitated at doing because of how they view society and what is required to survive. Veterans of foreign wars often find themselves eager and willing to learn the native language because it makes adjusting easier and allows them to survive without much assistance. Simple things like asking for directions or basic transactions like ordering food are crucial things to learn because being lost or starving is bad. We as humans are more adapt to learning a second language only when we need to, not because we should.
