A post I put here earlier has mysteriously gone missing. It was just to explain to those of you who do not understand the current situation about water charges in Ireland that we are not unwilling to pay for water as is being reported. When we purchase most goods (most being about 98% of everything we buy in Ireland) we also have to pay 23% tax on those goods it is called value added tax or VAT; 2% of that tax was levied to pay for our water system. We also pay road tax of which 5% goes to pay for the water system. Nobody has any problem with this arrangement. This current government have decided we need to pay for our water and have decided to install water meters in all houses in Ireland and charge us for the water we use. I should point out here that I have had a meter for the past 16 years because of where we live and how our water is supplied. As a nation we have had 7 years of massive cuts to our standard of living while those in power and their cronies have been rewarding themselves handsomely and other issues which reward the rich or make them immune for their wrongdoings and the water charges is what is known as the last straw. It is not soley about water paying for water which as I explained we do already, this is about being pushed too far by people who were charged with looking after us the people, not their elite friends in high places. There are many examples of wrong doing this is just the latest in a long line irishtimes/news/politics/john-mcnulty-got-imma-post-within-two-days-of-request-1.1979953
