A post from April of last year, but it seems even more relevant today. The natural tendency of government is for small snippets of freedom to be surreptitiously and incrementally stolen away, never to return, until finally, one day your haunted look of suffering and regret is captured by a state photographer as youre loaded into a cattle-car with all of the others. Although this has happened repeatedly and relentlessly throughout world history in one form or another, the American doctrine of Cant happen here prevails in public perception, the self-deluding progeny of a disingenuous media in collusion with a power-hungry government, largely beholden only to themselves and their corporate sponsors. Although I would love to take the blue pill and enjoy the wonderful (if temporary) fuzzies I would get from the re-assuring mindset that we Americans are somehow immune to the same forces that have precipitated the decline of most previous highly successful civilizations, I am incapable of being that intellectually dishonest with myself. Do what you can to raise awareness, love thy fellow humans, be proactive in doing what you can to help retain our freedoms, and then hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
