A pound of muscle takes up 1/4 less space than a pound of fat. Look at a pound of margarine or butter sticks. Each stick is 1/4 lb. One pound of fat takes as much space as all 4 sticks, while one pound of muscle takes the same space as 3 sticks. We know the fat and muscle each still weigh one pound, so what does this mean? As you build muscle through your resistance or weight training, your body will be smaller even though you may weigh the same on the scale!
