A powerful letter to the editor by a good friend of mine to the Hendersonville Times-News, published September 20th --- To the editor: My brother-in-law owns a small tile business. He is the owner and only full-time employee. Business has been slow the past few years, but he recognized the need for health insurance for himself and his wife. They managed to pay the $725 monthly premium, even though it was tough on their budget. After passage of the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare to its detractors, my brother-in-law enrolled. Instead of paying a premium of $725 per month, his premium dropped to $30 per month! And his Affordable Care Act policy offers better coverage with a lower deductible. Business is better this year, so he will have a higher premium for next year and will have to return a portion of his subsidy for this year. Even so, my brother-in-law is one of millions of Americans who have obtained affordable health insurance, many for the first time, and gotten coverage for far less than what it cost prior to passage of the ACA. Whether you call it Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act, my brother-in-law calls it wonderful, and millions of Americans would agree with him. Doug Freeman, Hendersonville, N.C.
