A primer of the candidates (some known, most not) for Senator - TopicsExpress

A primer of the candidates (some known, most not) for Senator George Maziarzs vacant seat. My honest, unvarnished opinion on things that I have no say in. Charlie Nesbitt is one of the most honorable and decent men I have ever known. He is like a second father to me in many ways. I truly would go through hell with a bucket of gasoline for this man. Rob Ortt is also an amazing American, a man I know and admire. He supported Vets for Freedom from the beginning. And I am proud to be in his fraternity of veterans. Gia Marie Arnold is everything I love about politics. The unknown, passionate and articulate political novice who comes at elected office as a duty and service to her community. Richelle Pasceri continues to serve Lockport today as City Clerk and I believe an up and coming Republican Rock Star for the future. So lets assume this is a four way race. Lets assume this about who is best for the region and not just who was loyal to George Maziarz. Lets assume two of the four candidates are actually thinking about this race. (disclaimer: I personally know Nesbitt, Ortt and Pasceri. Have not had much interaction with Gia Arnold. None of that matters. Just full disclosure) Military service? Ortt served with distinction in the national guard in Afghanistan. Charlie Nesbitt has received the Distinguished Flying Cross for superhuman valor in Vietnam. (That is one below the Medal of Honor btw.) Pasceri and Arnold never served in the military but are both patriotic conservatives. Advantage: NESBITT Who would shake up Albany? Ortt has experience as mayor of North Tonawanda. Is a no nonsense man who wont cower to Albany insiders. Arnold will set the place on fire. (what is needed) and will learn the job over time. Pasceri is a smart, savvy and focused steward. Nesbitt was the minority leader of the New York Assembly. People quake in his presence. He has instant respect and credibility. Advantage: NESBITT Guns? Nesbitt was pro gun before being pro gun was cool. Ortt is pro gun. Both of them used guns in defense of our nation. Arnold is an unapologetic 2nd Amendment defender. Pasceri is pro gun and all support the repeal of the SAFE Act. Advantage: TIE (honorable mention to Arnold for being so outspoken on this important issue) Fiscal future of New York state, jobs, economy? Charlie Nesbitt can eat alphabet soup and poop out better policy than half of the New York Senate (attention Mike Razenhofer) Ortt is doing a great job in NT I am told. Pasceri is a city clerk for petes sake. She is up for the task. Arnold, although never tested, I am confident could vote against nonsense spending bills and make us a more sound state by simply voting her conservative conscious. Advantage: NESBITT The future of the party? Ortt is a widely regarded as the next big thing in the Niagara County GOP and he earned that distinction from hard work and dedicated service. Arnold is a newbie who I would love to see continue to rock and roll over the rinos locally. Pasceri is the total package. Nesbitt has paid his dues tenfold but has been out of office for awhile. Advantage: PASCERI Who will restore respect and best represent the region? Ortt has made a ton of friends in the party and is the front runner according to the insiders. For all the same reasons, Arnold is being pushed aside because of her newcomer status (trust me Gia, I feel your pain) Nesbitt is a savvy, Orleans county native who has zero fear and no need to impress any one in the establishment. Pasceri has zero political liabilities and inspires all those around her. TIE: Ortt, Paceri, Nesbitt Who wants it more? Ortt has already planned an announcement. Arnold has run for this seat for months and is working her tail to the bone talking to constituents. Nesbitt will serve if asked, he will not turn his back on the region. He is a proven leader, but most likely doesnt want the burden of running for office again. Pasceri is so humble, she doesnt realize so many people support her and see her as a future candidate for higher office. TIE: Ortt, Arnold Who is the best candidate? Charlie Nesbitt Who would hit the ground running on day one? Charlie Nesbitt Who deserves the seat? Gia Arnold (she has run for it, worked for it) Who should be the candidate? Charlie Nesbitt Who is the future of the party? Richelle Pasceri Who represents real change from Maziarz? Gia Arnold Who does Albany NOT want to be a Senator? Charlie Nesbitt Who represents what the Republican party needs to be in ten years? Richelle Pasceri Who does the establishment want as a candidate? Rob Ortt Who would be a congressional candidate in six years? Richelle Pasceri, Rob Ortt Who do I like and want to see run in the future? All of the above Who will probably get it because none of this matters? Rob Ortt (and honestly, this is the way the process goes. Ortt is a stud and is beloved in Niagara county.) Who cares about my opinion? (dont answer that) Why am I doing this? my noon appointment is 40 minutes late
