A proposal for a solar farm in Lount has been given the green light by North West Leicestershire District Council. An application for a temporary change of use from agriculture to a solar site has been approved for five hectares of land between the A42 and Nottingham Road, close to Ashby RFCs ground. In a planning statement, the applicant says: It is anticipated that the proposed solar farm will generate up to 2.8MW. This is sufficient to produce around 2.5 GWh of electricity per year which is equivalent to the average annual electricity consumption of around 500 households and an annual reduction of carbon emissions of approximately 1,000 tonnes. Recognising the district’s location within the National Forest, the development will also contribute to the strategic aims of the National Forest by enabling ecological improvements around the solar panels.
