A puppy is the best gift in the world, but since it is Christmas - TopicsExpress

A puppy is the best gift in the world, but since it is Christmas time I would like to remind all parents out there that this is NOT a gift you can get tired of and get rid of to make more room for gifts next Chrismtas etc. This is a HUGE committment...you must be willing to train this puppy, socialize this puppy, and care for this puppy as if he/she is another member of the family. If you are willing to do so, this puppy will be loyal to you for its entire life. If you are NOT willing to accept accidents while this puppy is learning...such as having to clean up where it pottys, or chewing on your furniture or a shoe you have left within reach then PLEASE DO NOT get your children a puppy for christmas. Let this puppy go to a home that is willing to care for it for its entire life. Also, please research the breed of puppy you are getting. Make sure this is a breed that would actually fit in with your family. If you have children, it needs to be a breed that is great with children. If this will not be a dog kept inside as a family dog (which I personally think ALL dogs should be) then do not get a dog that has long hair that is going to get filthy and matted staying out doors. Also, if you are considering getting a long haired dog, make sure you are willing to brush him regularly (Actually I recommend a comb over a brush so you can make sure it is not getting matted underneath. A brush will go over the mats but a comb will stop and catch them to show you it is there and you can get it out BEFORE it gets bad) and also a long hair dog will need to be groomed regularly so make sure you will be able to afford and willing to take him to the groomers on a regular basis. If you cant then I suggest you check out short hair dogs that will just need a bath and nail trim (things you can do at home) or atleast less expensive to have done. After thinking of all of this, you KNOW that a dog would be right for your family...CONGRATULATIONS on the most terriffic family member you will ever have. Two signs that I have are...choosing a dog is the only chance you get to actually pick out a family member and.....No outfit is complete without dog hair. LOL. Enjoy your pup.
