A question I asked to the Minister of Health Stephen Mandel about the discovery of naturally occurring arsenic in the water in Parkland County. I have included a few pointers for information. • The sample area for these well tests cross 9 constituency boundaries (east of Range Road 30, south of Twp Road 544, north of Twp Road 502 and west of Range Road 250). This area is quite densely populated with over 6,000 private wells. • The municipal water supplies in these counties are safe and have not been impacted by this issue. • It is not unusual to find naturally-occurring arsenic and manganese in groundwater in Alberta. • Residents can contact AHS Environmental Public Health’s Spruce Grove office any time at 780-342-1330. • Generally, the risk of arsenic to animal health (livestock and pets) is very low but if there are questions or concerns, please contact Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development at 780-310-3276. youtu.be/O9ddrHsh9ls
