A question based on a lunchtime conversation I had on Monday. We read about the need for HBCUs and how some of our schools are struggling to raise money and to maintain their accreditation due to a number of issues. When it comes to the state schools we here about possibly merging schools or closing them altogether. Whenever we hear law makers discussing these ideas people like to say call your representatives and tell them how much the schools mean to the community etc. etc. my question is why dont we do a better job of getting access to our law makers the same way other interests groups do and before a potential problem arises. Why doesnt the national pan Hellenic counsel have a political action committee that raises hundreds of millions of dollars and sponsors candidates and supports or opposes legislation? My timeline has been Crimson, blue and red and pink and Im sure it will be ice cold and purple before too long. There are enough members of pan Hellenic organizations walking around this country that young educated African Americans could essentially decide who runs for president or governor of a lot of states with the appropriate amount of funding. Im not a member of one of these organizations and Ive never really desired to be so this aint my fight but I see an opportunity going to waste.
