A question for Gaines, or anyone else from the field of geology - TopicsExpress

A question for Gaines, or anyone else from the field of geology etc. This is just one of 000s of images available from NASA. Supposedly taken by Mars Rover Curiosity on Sol 574, can someone give an insight into a) whether its likely to be a genuine Mars image? And b) If so, what is the likely cause for this type of damage? It would seem that whilst these images are freely available, NASA dont normally release them via the Media. Its been said that there are 2 main groups within NASA, the “roosters” and the “owls.” The latter consider themselves wise by keeping quiet, whilst the former want to crow about whats really on Mars. mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl-raw-images/msss/00574/mcam/0574ML2329001000E1_DXXX.jpg
