A question for today: One of the first lessons I learned in - TopicsExpress

A question for today: One of the first lessons I learned in kindergarten, mayhap before kindergarten was, Dont hit people. It was a rule that was taught to me with a sun and cloud system. Sun stickers next to your name denoted good behaviour for the day. A cloud sticker showed that youd screwed up, you bad kid. Worst would be if you had gotten a sun then did something bad and a cloud sticker would be put over the sun sticker signifying youd done good, but then the bad covered it up. The bad hid the good, overshadowing it and negating it. Those thoughts stick with me still to this day. I have two very personal ethics which hold true for me. I recognize that people will stand in juxtaposition but still they hold true for me. One being, that you dont hit people; there is no time when you resort to violence because and act of violence is not the end of a thing. An act of violence perpetuates cycles of and is a direct cause of more violence. Violence begets violence begets violence, and if you want to be part of a peace time civilian society, if you want to come to the table where we all reason together, violence is not a viable tactic. You dont hit people. Secondly, is this bad can block the sun. Sometimes the difference between a sunny day and a bad day is clouds. There can be all this sun (good intentions and ideals) but if it manifests itself in tsunamis and hurricanes then it aint good. A person can believe that right is right, but doesnt make an action right. I bring this up because of the attacks in Paris on satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo. Ive been sickened, saddened, stunned, infuriated and just more, feelings I dont have words for because if I poke at those things Ill cry or scream or some mixture of the two. We all have been. We all should be. I hope that we continue to hold the torch of freedom of expression, freedom of speech in honor of those who gave their lives to uphold those principles. To uphold those rights. And the question is: What is the most offensive or dirty joke you know? #JeSuisCharlie
