♥A question from a Mum♥ Hi there I need some advice and help please not judgement ....my son is 15 diagnosed with Aspergers (high functioning) in 2011 at 11/12 and is really struggling at school with social issues, serious emotional outbursts and meltdowns due to different triggers (new teachers at the beginning of a new term being one!) and the mix of teenage hormones in the equation too is making things a little more challenging than the usual. He has been repeatedly suspended for inappropriate behaviours (defiance, lashing out at others, not following instructions, refusing to do tests and work he is struggling with, etc...etc...) He does demonstrate physical behaviours when in meltdown - will break things and punch the wall / door, and then runs off.....after the episode he is exhausted, cries and just wants to sleep. He is always remorseful but as we know, has no control in the moment....teachers have suggested medication? which is something I have been trying to avoid. Is it something I should be considering? He has been having some therapy and I am slowly making diet changes for him. My heart breaks when I see my child in this state - he tells me he hates his life and it is getting harder and harder to motivate him to go to school. He is in yr.9 and smart but is not achieving - he lacks confidence and understanding. He is in mainstream in all subject areas. After each suspension he is further and further behind in school work, and misses out on the classroom instruction / tests etc.....what to do?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Is there a male psychiatrist on the GC that anybody could recommend (budget friendly)? We really need help. It feels like we are running out of options! The episodes are more frequent and school suspensions are not helping. Thanks in advance.
