A question has been posed that I will now answer. What do we get for our membership?? By joining a political party you do a number of things, most importantly your membership keeps the party registered as we need 500 enrolled voters on our books to satisfy the electoral commission. As we are offering free membership this doesnt apply yet but when you are a financial member your yearly fee goes towards election campaigns. On a 3 year cycle at $30 per membership times 500 min members thats $45000. This doesnt sound like much but in QLD that can fund 1 or 2 seats campaign. From 89 QLD electorates we must be smart and determine where our best chances of getting a high primary vote, then establish a preference flow to get us over the line. In essence, your membership is the party, without it we wouldnt be able to register and thus not be able to contest elections. Membership also means you have a say on candidates at pre selection and also can bring policy ideas to the meetings. You can be involved from simple membership to local committee and right up to the state committee. Dave
