A quick response from local volunteers helped Alaska State Troopers rescue a hypothermic man who was lost on Mount Benson near Seward, Alaska yesterday. The man was cold, wet and disoriented when he made the emergency call to the Alaska State Troopers that morning. In response, Troopers launched Helo-3, an Anchorage-based AStar helicopter. Upon hearing rumors of a search, Seward Helicopter Tours immediately contacted Troopers to volunteer its helicopter to join in the search. Seward Helicopter Tours, with EMTs from Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department on board, found the man unresponsive and in dire condition on the steep slopes of the mountain. The EMTs began treatment and stayed with the man until Helo-3 arrived to extract everyone safely off the mountain. Alaska State Troopers thanks everyone involved that contributed to this successful rescue on Mount Benson.
