A quickGood Morning and a THANX to the wife for todays thingy,Im glad I have someone who can come up with things to keep me occupied........Thinking back to the 50s 60s and to the music I liked, opens up a whole can of worms. Places, times change so I gots to go back to when it began........Having been raised by my sisters learning to dance was a must, I didnt see why but it was easier at the time to go with the flow. As it turned out I.... as a dancer..... how can I put it had two left feet, bull in china shop come to mind. I can see in my mind my sisters walking away muttering and throwing hands in disgust. I learned just enough to not to step on toes (I did anyway) and still be acceptable as a date. The music at that time was of course Doo Wop...I do love my sounds. First dance at Franklin was a night to remember I was unaware I was being set up. When I walked in they had my date on the other side of the gym and the first song we danced to was Earth Angel I had never heard it before . After that it was doo wop every day. No matter where you were the music was always there. It was with you whereever you were, at the Submarine races, your favorite private spot for makin out , a boring movie at the drive -in or when it rained and you couldnt see the screen the music was there. In the still of the Night, When You wish upon a star, one of my favorites Cherry Pie. You meet your friends at a pizza place Sals was my choice and the sounds never stopped, So Fine, I Only have Eyes for You and of course every Elvis song All shook Up, Jailhouse Rock. Twenty- five cents for 3 tunes juke box never stopped. I had a secret wish for Anette Funicello and Shelley Fabares (Johnny Angel) As a matternof fact I dated a girl that looked like Shelley (her name was Bunny also) she had an ex that was sent away for a while.He got out and came looking for her.(Sounds Like a song) We were at Sals pizza and I went outside to settle the problem (expecting to get my butt kicked) we exchanged words and he smiled and walked away I thought I made an impression on him...found out later if he had got into any trouble he was going back to jail...The moral of the story is about 2 weeks later she breaks up with me...it seeme she was in the clear now so she could date other guys. Cars and DooWop..... it seems some some doowop tunes make cars go faster ....Jimmy Dean ,Crash, and Chicken.......then there were cars and girls......Most girls wanted a guy that had a car (status symbol) in my time they were few and far between..i remember one fateful night a guy we knew pulled up in a red 1958 Plymouth Fury Convertable a gorgeous machine. Within minutes five us were in it and crusin on Yonkers ave radio blasting away and behold a carful of girls and the game was on follow and meet the girls.On the curve in front of the race track almost across from the diner he loses control of the car we side swipe a bus do a couple of complete turns and come to a stop HE was with us that night,bumps and bruises. I listen to the music I love now in the house and when im driving and I remeber the songs that meant something to me those four years with doo wop.....Venus, Sleepwalk,Cathys Clown, Runaround Sue and My favorite Wanderers and the one that made me settle down I Only Have Eyes For You...my songs ,my time ...........
