A quote from Richard Skanse from the Lone Star Music Awards... Robert Earl Keen came all the way from Kerrville to San Marcos just to induct Joe Ely into our LSM Hall of Fame (Keen was our first inductee last year). I had only asked him, on a whim, if hed be interested in saying a few words about Ely a couple, maybe three days before the awards. He said yes but that he wouldnt be able to get there until about 9:30. We were inducting Joe at 10. So I was worried he might not make it in time. But were standing out back waiting for him, I know hes close and Im watching for his car, when I see this lone Wyatt Earp figure walking right down the middle of the alleyway. Is that Robert? someone asked. That could ONLY be Robert. Hell of a way to make an entrance. All that was missing was a Sergio Leone film score.
