A random Chismosa in our town asked me, I am a nurse and why am I - TopicsExpress

A random Chismosa in our town asked me, I am a nurse and why am I still not in abroad... I explained to her this: you dont have to go abroad to be successful in life. I have actually matured over the fact that the american dream that I used to die for, or whatever that foreign dream was, was not for me, and realized that I never really wanted it. Maybe I was too blinded and influenced by our conservative culture, that we equate working abroad with luxury or having an automatic good life. And I guess some people still live with that. Some people still believe in that. I cant blame them. I have nothing against people working abroad especially the people I know and care. I actually admired their bravery and sacrifice. Some of them went there with no choice. You can just imagine the difference of culture, the weather, the people that they were hurdling, the loneliness, I salute them. I think I couldnt handle it myself. I may sound so pragmatic, but real success in life can be attained through hard work and not just acquiring a plain rubbish visa. Plus the things that can never be replaced with a piece of snow: ill never miss a family reunion, i can kiss someone i love in person not on webcam, i get to catch a good dinner with my friends anytime, i can get to work without worrying about racism, and the list goes on and on. Those are the perks of staying in your own imperfect country. I can still go abroad though, only for a vacation, not for work. And now I feel so blessed. -The lady shut her mouth and walked away- No not a lady, a chismosa.
