A rant. Last night I posted on the wedding cake baker & and her tears over the repercussions of her bigotry. (No, the govt didnt not shut her down. The free market spoke.) Some folks bellowed: They have a right to refuse service to whomever they choose! (Well, not true if its a legally protected class. But the legality is not what concerns me.) I challenge those folks to honestly ask themselves to imagine this scenario. A Muslim-owned bakery. A family comes in, that happens to be Christian, looking for a birthday cake. They are denied. You wouldnt be outraged? Honestly, look into your hearts and ask yourselves that. You wouldnt yell about this discrimination from the rooftops? Of course you would. Trust me, Fox News would descend with camera crews so fast.............. Folks cried that the brides-to-be were ugly and hateful in their behavior. No. They were brave. Yes, it would have been easier to simply find another bakery. But every time people shine a light on discrimination & hold bigots accountable, it makes things easier for those who walk the path behind them. I admire them for not choosing the easy route. Rosa Parks broke the law. Should she have just bowed her head, taken her seat in the back, and patiently, silently waited for change? Sometimes you need to raise a ruckus, if you are to survive. If you are to change things, and make things better for future generations. Sometimes you gotta -- as the saying goes -- not just comfort the afflicted, but afflict the too-comfortable. If, in their comfort, they dont realize that they are causing pain for others. That they need empathy. -- Cindi
