A reading from the conservative combox magisterium: the opinions of bishops and even popes dont count for a hill of beans unless it is expressed as doctrine/dogma by a Council or a papal ex cathedra statement. Used to be lefty dissenters used this strategy to blow off Humanae Vitae. These days righty dissenters use it to blow off the teaching of the Church on unjust war, torture, contempt for the weak and any other sacred cow.
