A really good reminder I saw posted on Lewis County Watch. PLEASE - TopicsExpress

A really good reminder I saw posted on Lewis County Watch. PLEASE take a moment to read it. For our scanner listeners + info from LCW: Last night, we informed readers about an active, in-progress law enforcement pursuit, in the Centralia Gold Street area, via this FB page, let readers know that they could listen to the scanner traffic, and asked readers to *NEVER* post information from the scanner publicly, during in-progress law enforcement events. What does that mean? Well, the law enforcement search we posted about last night was a large increase in law enforcement activity, which was highly visible to area residents, and in a focused area. As citizens, you have the right to listen to scanner traffic, as it can be informative, and is considered public record. However, should you choose to listen to the scanner, specifically during a pursuit, SWAT event, or other tactical type deployment, citizens should never post a play-by-play of law enforcement officers movements, share directions of travel of officers (via vehicle or otherwise), or any type of information that might aid a criminal in avoiding capture, etc. *** At no point, should a criminal EVER be able to use social media to stay ahead of law enforcement, or evade capture. *** (that is the real key, and we encourage you to educate others.) We only ask, as a reminder, that you be mindful of the written / posted information that you share in *public* settings (pages, groups, etc.). Not sharing these types of information is a protective measure for law enforcement, and helps our officers apprehend criminals, and protect our streets, in a safe manner. But, sharing responsible information can also help our followers stay safe! Many followers had a perfect response to the information last night — they locked their doors, tuned into the scanner, stayed alert, stayed safe, and in their homes, and did not interfere with the search process.
