A really neat little Idora Park artifact that we received from Frank and Mary Lou Manno who live in Braselton, Georgia. This is a scorecard from Idora Parks Miniature Golf Course! Once (on this page), I erroneously used the names Putt Putt Golf and Miniature Golf interchangeably. Oh no, dont do that! They are NOT the same thing! Man, did I get schooled for that faux pas... I had no idea that Putt Putt Golf is such a serious thing! It even has sanctioning bodies, competitions, memberships, etc... Miniature Golf on the other hand, is for the common man...like me! Oh, and for kids and women too! But, they also have competitions. (This is so confusing...) Miniature Golf started in the USA when a guy named Garnet Carter (I wonder if his nickname was Red???) built a little course in the late 1920s with the intent to distract golf widows whose husbands used his real golf course. Reds (Ill bet that was his nickname, and if it wasnt it should have been...I mean, with a first name like Garnet wouldnt you rather be called Red?) Anyway, I was saying that Reds Mini Golf course had gnomes, hollow tree trunks, ...stuff that was fun to see. Mini Golf actually started way back in 1867...at St. Andrews of course! By 1930 there were 25,000 Miniature Golf Courses in the USA. The courses got wilder and wilder. Some courses had mini jungles, dinosaurs (not real ones), and live bears in cages. The bear would actually claw at your balls! Wait, I dont think I said that right... I meant...the bears could reach through their cage and claw at your balls while you were putting! That still doesnt sound right... Anyway, I guess what Im trying to say is that you had to be careful that the bear didnt get your uh... Interfere with your...uh, putting. The Mini Golf craze eventually cooled off and there are maybe 5,000 Mini Golf courses in the USA. Myrtle Beach has about 50 Mini Golf courses and is considered the Mini Golf capital of Earth. Putt Putt is a brand, created in Fayetteville, NC, in 1954 by Don Clayton. (I have no idea what his nickname was.) Putt Putt didnt use the gimmicky stuff like Mini Golf...no jungles or dinosaurs. And no bears to steal your balls! Putt Putt is for serious putters! Each hole is a par 2 on Putt Putt courses. Franchises are available. Anyway....thank you to Frank and Mary Ellen Manno for donating this cool Idora Park Miniature Golf Scorecard! Its in good hands and others will get the opportunity to appreciate it! Again, thank you for saving another piece of Idora Park! Now, go here...buy cool Idora Park stuff: Www.shop.TheIdoraParkExperience
