A recap of Freds last day in Ontario, sound like a pretty amazing trip... Day 3 in Ontario - Got away from Scarborough early, wasnt sure how long it was going to take to get to Welland and being BC raised Im not that practiced on 6-8 lane highways getting out of TO & not really caring for the kamikaze like driving of southern ON. Given more time, Im sure I would love it and be as good a driver as everyone else on the 401. Arrived at Fitch Street Public School with time to spare. This was a special and enthusiastic visit. Fitch Street was reaching the $100,000 mark of TF fundraising. Met Joan Leblanc, RO of Welland community TF run and who made arrangements for my visit. What a great time had there, lots of Terry everywhere. Joan had this cool TFR t-shirt quilt on display. CTV was there for an interview. Met 2 separate people who saw Terry in Sudbury. It was nice to also meet Nancy Salvage who is the RO of the TFR in near by Port Colborne. She has these TFox Run Ontario license plates on her car. Not sure how she was ever able to get those. Off to Hamilton to visit St Marys Catholic Secondary. Met school TFRO Nancy Castura and principal Michael Gravina. They had refreshments & food set up in meeting room for those students & staff involved with hosting assembly. Did a interview with local the newspaper. This is the schools 3rd year of participation in the TFR, thanks to Steve Scime who I was also able to meet. He had invited me there in 2013, but couldnt get there until now. We were led into the gymnasium by the school Drum line. They were great. Excellent school, the smallest Catholic high school in Hamilton, but have a big Terry Fox heart. 2:30 and back to TO. Need to go right downtown. Darrell, Judi & I have a meeting with TFF Board Chair, Bill Pristanski in a tower at the corner of Bay & Front street. Traffic pretty darn good. Vancouver is getting big, but this west coaster is always amazed by the expanse and busyness of metro TO. Meeting done and then off to Leafs game with Bill. Ok yes, Im a Leafs fan!! Its got to do with my age & only 6 teams when I was a kid. Craig Jarvis sent with Darrell a nice surprise. A signed jersey of goaltender, Jonathan Bernier. Of course I wore it to the game, had to fit in with almost everyone else. Along with Bill there were a few Hab fans in attendance. The buds didnt win, but a good night and great TF Day. In post game TO traffic, headed to Breeda & Mike McClews for the night. A nice way to finish 3 inspiring Terry Fox days in Ontario. Thank you to everyone I met for making me feel so welcome. Like in 1980, Terrys spirit lives in Ontario. - Fred
