A recent poll showing an increasing number of citizens are worried about job security and the economy might have translated to the tepid beginning of this shopping season. Granted, online shopping continues to grow in popularity and so-called Cyber Monday deals could make up for some of the brick-and-mortar retail losses. Still, the National Retail Federation, which compiled the statistics used for this report, confirms many shoppers are scaling back their holiday spending due to economic concerns. As ObamaCare’s hidden expenses continue to be exposed and unemployment remains absurdly high, Americans are simply exercising fiscal common sense by curtailing superfluous expenditures. Unfortunately, such sacrifices are made necessary by a federal government completely unwilling to bring its own spending under control. –B. Christopher Agee
