A recent story though of a very common happening. Yet when happens close, one gets repulsed. I am involved with an NGO where in we run schools in tribal villages. We have about 300 whole time workers, working on pittance. About a week ago one of them fell ill seriously. He was admitted in a respectable health facility in Bhubaneswar. We from our NGO handle such exigencies. He was prescribed 4 injections per day each costing Rs 1500. We contacted the Pharmaceutical distributor for the said injection and bought the same for Rs 700 each. The hospital threatened that they would not be responsible for any medicine purchased from open market. It all appeared vague. On enquiry what surfaced was that the Doctor was expected to receive Rs 500 for each injection and hence the intrigue. I felt nauseatic.
