A recent structural survey has raised concerns about the stability - TopicsExpress

A recent structural survey has raised concerns about the stability of the East Gable End of Marley Hill engine shed at Tanfield Railway. This is the second oldest working engine shed in the world and after 160 years, some movement of the walls is known to have occurred. However recent adverse weather has exacerbated the problem and buttressing will be installed in the short term, whilst long term solutions are being considered bearing in mind the need to preserve the unique character of the building. In the meantime public access is to be restricted for safety reasons. It is hoped to continue our Early Iron event as best as possible, but we have moved working locomotives into our 5 road shed as a precaution.
