A reconstruction of the plot in 2005 showed that if Guy Fawkes was successful, there would have been enough gunpowder for the blast to destroy Parliament and kill James I. The reconstruction showed that the 2 metre (7 foot) walls would have been reduced to rubble and the blast would have reached 100 metres (330 feet) away. The plotters plan was to install a Catholic monarch on the throne rather than the Protestant James. What would have happened if they had succeeded?
