A red tide bloom has been developing off the southwest Florida - TopicsExpress

A red tide bloom has been developing off the southwest Florida coast offshore of Lee and Collier Counties. This does not mean every beach will be impacted at all times in these counties as red tide is patchy in nature usually. Strong onshore winds (generally northwest, west or southwest) tend to trigger the worst conditions at the coast. If high respiratory impacts are forecast by NOAA, the NWS in Tampa would send out a Beach Hazards Statement with that information as part of an experimental project with the National Ocean Service. Currently, only counties from Levy south to Lee are included in this experimental statement.
