A reflection on 2 Sam.19.23 ‘Shimei, the man who cursed David on his leaving Jerusalem, is now begging for pardon upon David’s restoration to the throne. Abishai wants to dispatch the plaintiff with the sword of vengeance, but David, confident in his own identity, is not looking for a head to roll. ‘Do I need anyone to die to prove my power?’ he is asking.
