A reflection on todays Sacred Scripture: Remember the things that the Lord has done! (Psalm 105:5) A seminarian was struggling with aspects of seminary life, waking up mornings feeling depressed. He started to question his calling. He brought this to his spiritual director, who advised him to think back over the last 48 hours or so and consider any good things that might have happened to him, no matter how trivial, and to jot them down. The seminarian obeyed, reflected, and filled two pages of notes identifying the good little things he recalled happening to him over the past few days, from an insight at Mass to a humorous but uplifting comment from a brother seminarian. He discovered dozens of such good little happenings that he had completely forgotten or overlooked. This exercise prompted the seminarian to consider the countless blessings he had received, going back to his being born into a good -- not perfect, but good -- family, with loving parents who had him baptized into the Catholic faith. When we die, what will the Lord find in our hearts: apathy -- resentment -- or perhaps, gratitude? But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? (Luke 18:8)
