A remark by a Hong Kong legislator, describing the umbrellas wielded by pro-democracy protesters as aggressive and comparing them to how gongfu master Wong Fei Hung uses one to fight enemies, has drawn the ire of a descendant of the legendary pugilist himself. Mr Pang Chi Ming, who has been practising gongfu for more than 50 years, called the remarks an insult to Chinese martial arts and his famous ancestor, adding that the umbrella was used as self-defence and was not an aggressive weapon.
