A remembrance function for Colonel Bob McCarthy, USMC, ret Brighton High School Teacher/Coach Date: Aug 7th 6-10pm Where: Florian Hall, 55 Hamlet St, Dorchester MA 02125 This is a remembrance function for his Marines, and the Brighton High kids he coached and other old pals and teachers. Colonel Bob McCarthy, USMC, ret, passed away on June 9th in Raleigh, NC at age 79. He guided Brighton HS to a Boston District League championship in 1971. Bob was also the head baseball coach. He later coached at Harvard and East Carolina among others. Bob was born in the projects of South Boston, graduated from Boston English HS, prepped at Lawrence Academy, and was a Notre Dame grad and footballer. Bill Stewart was his mentor and he and Will McDonough were best pals. He went on and got his wings as a Marine helicopter pilot and eventually was the CO of the Weymouth Naval Base helicopter squadron. Please join us to celebrate with members of his family, his service to our Country and his service to the kids of Brighton High.
