A response to Alan Franks comments in a post from Christine Evans re the Fez and your analogy that “you can’t polish a turd” - apologies the original thread will not let me insert a picture. I totally disagree, it is called regeneration and it happens all the time, here is an example (before and after pix) of a housing estate in East London. Rre-regen it was awful and depressing but with a little bit of imagination and thought (sadly lacking in the corridors of power these days), buildings, estates, areas can be completely turned around. It appears, from my view, this is just a money creation scheme for the council with absolutely no regard for what the people of Kirkby would like. The Festival Hall has been here for generations, and Alan, it most certainly is NOT a “turd”, and should be preserved as part of the heritage of Kirkby, not just bulldozed into oblivion, like the Railway, for the sake of a few quid!
