A ripper from Chicago, that doesn’t mess around. Pretty much - TopicsExpress

A ripper from Chicago, that doesn’t mess around. Pretty much from the first note tells you their going for the jugular in frenzied rock fashion. No artful noise interludes, not even a thought of a ballad. There’s some synth shoe-horned in between the guitars feeding back, but it’s just to make sure you feel something stronger. Different guys sing, one of ‘em kind reminded me of the Icky Boyfriends. That weird snarl that’s nasally malaised and kind of pretend pissed off. Or maybe someone else, the delivery of “California Kiss” has an Uber Alles cadence. Well if you don’t dig it, other guys sing too. Rhythm section made me think of crimes committed by the Tyrades out of Chicago a decade back. This album kind of reminds me of that youthful desire for rock and roll, not just for the intoxication (literal and metaphorical) wrapped up in it but also because everything else pales in comparison. Ending up with “Working Isn’t Working” emphasizes that point. The titles almost tell a tale themselves, and the lyrics help squeeze out a lot of attitude. I’m guessing they want to be like their title, a luxury that becomes a necessity. For solid rawk, this will not disappoint. -Thurston Hunger (KFJC)
